About two-thirds of U.S. shoppers say red meat and chicken prices have skyrocketed since the start of the year, according to a new poll.

Meat lovers were hit hardest by rising food costs out of 2,000 grocery shoppers surveyed between May 17 and May 19, Bloomberg reported.

The poll, which was conducted by Morning Consult, found that around 65% said red meat was more expensive now, while around 59% said chicken had become more expensive.

Meanwhile, more than half of shoppers said fruit, toilet paper, milk and ready meals also cost more.

And a third of shoppers said their grocery bills had increased since the start of the year, according to the survey.

The survey found that about a quarter of shoppers have started buying fewer items, including meat, in order to lower their bills.

The price hike comes as soaring commodity prices, more expensive transportation and challenges securing labor have all contributed to food inflation, Bloomberg reported.

“We have these pockets of inflation with no corresponding wage growth, and it’s going to put consumers in a very difficult position,” said Morning Consult economist John Leer.
