Bonds were issued on Monday for two people, a man and a woman, who appeared before the 35th District Judicial Court on criminal battery charges resulting from an incident in which the woman, who told police that ‘she was pregnant, allegedly hit a man with a baseball bat after he assaulted her.

Demarcus O. Aaron, 23, was given a $ 25,000 cash bond or corporate bond and Keosha S. Caver, 19, was given an unsecured $ 5,000 bond in the first appearance hearings before the district court.

Aaron and Caver were arrested on May 22 on domestic violence, third degree and second degree charges, respectively.

Officers responded at 1:14 a.m. on May 22 to a report of a disruption at Hillsboro Town House Apartments, 1600 Short E. Hillsboro, and upon arrival they were greeted by Caver at the entrance to the complex of ‘apartments.

Police said Caver’s nose was bleeding.

She told the police that she was pregnant and Aaron, the father of the child, repeatedly hit her, which left her nose bleeding.

Caver pointed the officers at Aaron, who was standing in front of a building.

Police said Aaron was bleeding from his left eyebrow and he said Caver hit him on the head with a baseball bat.

Aaron then “got extremely angry” and walked towards Caver with closed fists, police said.

They said he made a threat, telling Caver, “I don’t care if you’re my (little mom), I’m about to beat your (curse).”

Caver was then taken into custody, according to a police report.

Caver told officers she was trying to retrieve the key to her house from Aaron when he started punching her in the face.

She said she broke away from Aaron and when she realized her nose was bleeding, she went to her vehicle and retrieved the baseball bat.

Aaron started banging the windows of a friend’s vehicle and Caver said she approached him and swung the bat, hitting Aaron on the head.

Police said Aaron suffered a small laceration above his left eye.

He was transported to the South Arkansas Medical Center, where he was treated and released, and then to the Union County Jail.

Caver was released on a summons to appear in district court.

At their first hearing on Monday, Aaron and Caver were declared destitute. They will be assigned a public defender.

Aaron remained in jail late Monday evening.

If released on bail, Aaron must adhere to a daily curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Hit and run

El Dorado police are investigating an incident in which a man said he was intentionally hit by a vehicle on May 21.

No serious injuries were reported during the incident.

Officers were called at 11 a.m. on May 21 to the Coy Dumas and Haney area in reference to a vehicle-pedestrian accident.

Michael Hunter, 47, told officers he was working on a construction project in the area when a man he didn’t know approached him and threatened to “yell his (curse)”.

He said the man, later identified as Shawn Choate, appeared to be intoxicated, “seemed agitated by his presence” and asked if he had a gun.

Hunter told police that an argument took place between him and Choate and during the argument someone driving a golden Cadillac attempted to run over Hunter.

Hunter said the car veered towards him, pulled off the road and struck his leg, causing him to tip the hood of the vehicle and fall to the ground.

The driver then turned and accelerated towards him again, Hunter said, adding that he was able to get out of the way of the car.

Police said Hunter was “covered in dirt” and refused medical treatment.

Officers said they spoke with Choate, who provided information on a potential suspect.

Police said they were unable to locate the suspect or the vehicle.
