Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at a press conference after a civic reception in New York City, urged Bangladeshi expats in the United States to accept his government’s attractive offers and invest in their homeland.

“You Bangladeshi expats as well as American nationals can invest in Bangladesh,” she said after receiving the reception of the American section of the Awami League at the LaGuardia Airport Marriot hotel here on Friday evening (time of Bangladesh early today).

Responding to questions from journalists working in New York, the prime minister told expats in Bangladesh that his government offered attractive stimulus packages and benefits to domestic and foreign investors.

Noting that up to 100 economic zones are being created across the country, she said Bangladeshi expats and Americans can invest in Bangladesh by capitalizing on the benefits offered by her government.

“Expats will get more benefits for this purpose,” she said.

“We make good offers to everyone. Expats have better facilities (compared to others). So they can seize the opportunity and invest in Bangladesh,” said Sheikh Hasina.

The New York Awami League and its associated bodies received the Prime Minister who arrived in the United States on September 19 via Helsinki to attend the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

She will be leaving New York for Washington DC today after completing her week-long official visit there.

The Prime Minister is due to visit Bangladesh on October 1.
