The three local school districts plan to fully reopen their classrooms when students return for the fall semester.

“As long as the revised school guidelines (after June 15) don’t prevent us from doing so, we plan to fully reopen on August 4,” said Joan Boiko, spokesperson for PSUSD.

August 4th also marks the first day of school for the 2021-2022 PSUSD school year.

The school brought many of its students back for in-person learning in April, however, it was under the hybrid model, so students were only in classrooms two days a week.

Boiko said the district provides an independent study option for parents who apply for it for their children. The option will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The Coachella Valley Unified School District has never brought its students back to classrooms outside of a small group of students. The district brings back students for summer schools, as does the PSUSD and the Desert Sands Unified School District.

We are working to confirm if CVUSD will fully reopen its classrooms for the fall semester. According to the state, the CVUSD plans to fully reopen its schools on August 12.

DSUSD was the first local district to bring students back to classrooms using the hybrid model. The district has started the in-person learning in March. In May, the district expanded in-person instruction from two to four days. We reached out to district spokesperson Mary Perry for more details on the school’s plans in the fall.

DSUSD Summer School begins Tuesday with students returning to class.
