TEHRAN – Iran and Kyrgyzstan have signed a memorandum of understanding on port cooperation, the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) reported on Wednesday.

As reported, the MoU was signed in the presence of PMO chief Ali-Akbar Safaei and Kyrgyz President’s adviser Tengiz Bolturuk, and both sides emphasized bilateral cooperation.

Addressing the meeting where the mentioned MoU was signed, Safaei said that according to tariffs, laws and regulations, the condition is provided for the presence of investors in Iranian ports.

The PMO welcomes the presence of Kyrgyz investors in Iran’s southern ports by drafting a contract and reviewing it in the form of a joint committee, the official noted.

Kyrgyz investors and the private sector can use the free zone facilities by establishing an office in Kish Free Zone or Qeshm Free Zone (both in the southern province of Hormozgan, as the MoU has been signed with the port and maritime department of this province), said the head of the PMO.

Bolturuk, for his part, spoke of Bishkek’s interest in developing joint trade and economic relations and cooperation with Iran, and called for the cooperation to be operational as soon as possible.

He said, “Due to the changes and problems we face in the transit of goods from the west, we want to use the transit routes of eastern and Iranian ports for the transit of goods.”

Meanwhile, during a meeting with the head of ports and maritime department of Hormozgan province, Alireza Mohammadi Karaji-Ran, on Sunday, the Kyrgyz official said his country’s companies are keen to expand collaborations with their Iranian counterparts.

Bolturuk, who visited the port of Shahid Rajaei in southern Iran leading a delegation, expressed the Kyrgyz government’s interest and willingness to invest in the hinterland of the port of Shahid Rajaee, and said: “One of our important missions in this trip is to make the necessary preparations for the active presence of Kyrgyz companies in the port of Shahid Rajaei in order to improve economic relations between the two countries.

Referring to the designation of 32 investment projects in the economic plans of the President of Kyrgyzstan, Bolturuk continued: “Among the projects mentioned in different investment sectors, the activity in the port of Shahid Rajaei, in particular in the mining sector, is one of our priorities.”

According to the official, Kyrgyzstan is seriously seeking to develop relations and joint economic cooperation with Iran.

“In line with our president’s emphasis on implementing cooperation as soon as possible, we are very serious and committed to investing in Shahid Rajaei Port and we are ready to start operations in this port as early as March.” , he pointed out. .
